The Art of the Printer
Being a collection of random notes & observations on the art & practice of typography as set down by Carl Dair
The Art of the Printer is the fifth and final booklet in Carl Dair’s Type and Paper series for the E. B. Eddy Company. In this volume, Dair brings the focus back to the printer – who, at the time, was largely responsible for both the design and production of printed material. However, the role of the printer as designer was soon to be overtaken by the emerging profession of the graphic designer. A distinctive feature of The Art of the Printer is its cleverly designed foldout spreads, each serving two different sections within the booklet.
